That is why we are pleased to announce the completion of the Hudson L House, a signature project designed by the internationally acclaimed firm of Steven Holl Architects. This home goes beyond being merely an aesthetically pleasing construction, it sets standards for sustainable urban design while serving as an illustration of what can be achieved when builders and architects work harmoniously together.
A Modern Form for a Historic Town
Located on a silent parcel in Hudson, NY, the L House finishes the city’s fabric and speaks with an architectural voice. A basic “L” plan clad in custom corrugated aluminum defines a green courtyard offering privacy and relaxation inside a dense neighborhood. The plan opens up to ensure that maximum natural light can be achieved at different times of the day. It has a super-insulated envelope and a geothermal heating and cooling system; a first for the city of Hudson.
Collaboration in Craft
In collaboration with Steven Holl Architects, we brought an inspired design to life with a home that is both meticulously detailed and crisply executed. From custom aluminum panels to the seamless incorporation of reclaimed materials, our task was to make sure everything would work not only structurally but also visually according to the design intent.
Inside, the home features an all-wood interior, natural light at every orientation, and custom spaces that will work well for the display of a significant mid-century furniture collection. Mark McDonald and Dwayne Resnick, clients for the project who are highly regarded within the world of design, required a space that would act as a place to live, a gallery, and a studio. Every room has been designed with dual purposes in mind.
