Renovation in Wappingers Falls, NY

The Wappinger Falls was a major renovation and addition to an existing home. The homeowners were working with architect Susan Alvarez and needed a builder who could take the architectural plans and manage the project from construction through the details that would ultimately define the finished home.

This was a substantial project. We were working within an existing structure while also making major changes to the home. The scope included the addition, exterior renovation, new windows and siding, stonework, roofing, electrical and plumbing upgrades, geothermal, kitchen and bathroom work, custom finishes, site work, concrete, grading and landscaping.

One of the biggest responsibilities from a project management standpoint was coordinating all of those pieces. There were a lot of trades involved, and the order in which the work happened mattered. Decisions being made about one area could affect several others, so communication between the architect, homeowner, our team and the trades was important throughout the project.

Material selection also played a big role in this home. The dark exterior, natural stone, black windows and warm wood were all selected to work together. That continued inside with the wood cabinetry, brass fixtures, stone and tile. We spent time getting those details right because the finishes are what bring the architectural plans to life.

The primary bathroom is a great example of that coordination. There are several different materials and finishes in one space, along with custom tile work, wall mounted plumbing fixtures, lighting, cabinetry, mirrors, the shower and freestanding tub. Each piece had to be planned around the others.

The exterior required just as much coordination. Once the major construction was complete, we still had concrete work, grading, retaining areas, hydroseeding and property restoration to finish. Those pieces matter because the job is not complete when the construction inside the house is done. The entire property needs to feel finished.
